Mumbai, May 24 -- Back in 2007, Mallika Sherawat teamed up with choreographer Brinda for her hit item song, 'Maiyya maiyya...' (Guru). In 2004, Vivek Oberoi and Brinda worked together in Mani Ratnam's Yuva. Now, years later, the hit dance director has joined forces with both Mallika and Vivek in the upcoming film, Kismet Luv Paisa Dilli (KLPD).
"I've had a fantastic time working with them. Neither of them complained about a single thing. We just had about two days to wrap up 'Dishkiyaon...', which meant, long rehearsal hours in the scorching heat.
But they were game for it," says the National Award-winning choreographer who has worked with veterans like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
She has also been part of such Bollywood biggies as Raavan (2010) and Agneepath (2012), in the past. Other than 'Dishkiyaon...', Brinda will choreograph another song in the film. Ask her if Mallika and Vivek have changed as dancers over the years, and she says with a smile: "Mallika has definitely improved in her dance skills, since 'Maiyya maiyya...'. Back then, she was new and was getting used to the dancing bit. Besides, that song involved a lot of belly dancing.
In comparison, KLPD songs are easier. But still, she really has gotten better." As for Vivek, Brinda feels he was always a hardworking boy. "People, especially stars, change a lot with time, but Vivek has remained the same in terms of his commitment and sincerity to work.
He doesn't give you a chance to complain," she says. So are Bollywood films any different from films in the south? She says, "I have heard people talking of Bollywood being an unprofessional industry, but that is not the case.
They are very particular about dance sequences, looks and even the junior artistes in a song. For instance, in Agneepath, when I needed five junior artistes, the filmmakers made sure I got the best."
