Dus 2 to be made?

Producer Nitin Manmohan is gearing up to make a sequel of his 2005 multi-starrer, Dus. But instead of discussing the project with Anubhav Sinha, who directed the first movie, he has approached director Samir Karnik of Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011) fame. “He asked me if I could do Dus 2 and I readily agreed.” says Samir.

Karnik insists that his movie won’t be a sequel and that he will turn Dus into a series. When asked what the difference between the two is, he explains, “A sequel continues from where the original ends. On the other hand, a series is a completely new story, but in most cases, with the same characters. I would say Dhoom 2 (2006) is a sequel to Dhoom (2004), whereas Munnabhai (2003) is a series and I must say that Raju Hirani (director) has figured it out well.”

Though the idea of making Dus 2 is still in its initial stage, Samir has already started mapping the plot in his mind. “The movie will have a completely different setup this time,” says the director, who despite giving a hit last year didn’t have a great start to 2012 since his latest film, Chaar Din Ki Chandni bombed badly at the box-office.

The original action-thriller saw a host of actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Zayed Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Esha Deol and Diya Mirza among others. But when asked if it was possible to bring together such a stellar cast for the project, Karnik says, “I frankly don’t know. But it would be interesting to see if Nitin pulls that off since he seems very kicked about the project. And honestly, if he manages to rope in so many stars, then it will be one of the sleekest movies anyone can attempt to make.”

The makers of the movie are yet to figure when they can start work on the film.
