Remember Amitabh Bachchan’s verbal duels with Pran and Ajit in the 1973 classic, Zanjeer? Now, as south star Ram Charan Teja gets into the Big B’s angry young man avatar in the film’s remake, the makers are taking no chances with the fiery dialogue delivery.
In the original Zanjeer, Bachchan had several lengthy exchanges with Pran and Ajit. Director Apoorva Lakhia wants to retain the magic with similar ‘dialoguebaazi’. Although all the lines have been re-written, some are equally lengthy and carry similar confrontational feelings.
“Even if Ram Charan can’t pull off heavy Urdu words, at least the dialogue delivery should be fairly fluent,” says an industry insider. “So now, the script has been given to Hindi trainer Vidur Chaturvedi so he can help with the language.”
Chaturvedi confirms: “I went to meet Ram Charan a couple of days ago. I will go through the script and mark out the portions where he may face difficulty.” It isn’t only Ram who finds Hindi difficult to master. Even stars like Katrina Kaif, Kalki Koechlin and Deepika Padukone continue to train in Hindi. “Since Kalki is from Pondicherry, her accent is a French-Tamil mix,” says Chaturvedi. Deepika too went in for diction training with Vibha Chibber before leaving for the Manali schedule of Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. For Yash Chopra’s yet-untitled film, Chaturvedi was called in before Katrina Kaif left for the London schedule. “We went through the script and her scenes,” says Vidur.
