Transformers 3 breaks box office record - Latest Hollywood Movies News Gossips

LOS ANGELES: Transformers 3 is not only winning over audiences and breathing new life into 3D it’s also breaking box office records. Box Office Tracker Exhibitor Relations is showing that the third film Dark Of The Moon will bring in over $100million by the 4th of July making it the largest holiday box office on record.

3D Box office take has been on the slide over the last while with Green Lantern taking the hardest hit with less than 40% of its revenue coming from 3D ticket sales. Transformers 3D on the other hand has seen over 60% of its revenue come from 3D ticket sales.

Without question Transformers will become a billion dollar franchise in the next month if things keep up as they are at the box office.

Uma courts Bollywood in boom time! - Latest Bollywood and Hollywood News Gossips

Hollywood actor Uma Thurman’s love for Indian films is well timed. Her statement on Thursday that she would love to work in a Bollywood film, coincided with the release of the industry’s box office report for the first six months (Jan-June) of 2011. It was the perfect icing on the cake for the
upbeat mood, as the scorecard revealed unprecedented profits, with as many as 19 films declared as hits.

“The register has been very good this year so far, especially compared to last year. Most mainstream commercial films did well. The ones that couldn’t rake in the moolah are art house films like Stanley Ka Dabba, Shaitan, etc. But still the overall losses have been minimal,” says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Producer Bhushan Kumar, whose film, Ready, has been the top grosser of the year so far, says Thurman’s inclination to work here will add a further boost to the mood. “Earlier only our stars would get excited about Hollywood. But it is great that now even we have become that big that they want to come and work here,” he says. “Interest shown by a great international star such as Uma Thurman couldn’t have been at a better time. It’ll take Bollywood’s appeal worldwide,” adds Adarsh.

Trade analyst Joginder Tuteja says, “Overall this has been a very good year. The net losses have only been Rs 75 crore. There have been surprise hits like Ragini MMS and Pyaar Ka Punchnama. The biggest flops have been 7 Khoon Maaf and Game.”

While last year’s biggest hit Dabangg, was made on a budget of Rs 42 crore and ended up making Rs 212 crore, this year Ready, that cost Rs 40 crore, has been the highest grosser so far with Rs 118 crore.

Even films with moderate budgets set the box office registers ringing. No One killed Jessica that took Rs 9 crore to produce, ended up getting revenues worth Rs 35 crore, while Yamla Pagla Deewana, which was made on a budget of Rs 20 crore had a gross revenue of Rs 55 crore. “Despite World Cup and IPL, we still managed to swim the tide, thanks to films like Ready, Yamla Pagla Deewana and Ragini MMS,” says trade analyst Atul Mohan.

The second half of 2011 has already begun with a bang this Friday with Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap, Delhi Belly and Transformers opening with a bang to packed houses.

Score card January to June, 2011

R Madhavan Mads gets Bips - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, July 4 -- Here comes my Sandra from Bandra. She's telling me that R Madhavan - remember the dude from Mumbai, who went down South and now is back in Maximum City - is all excited because he is going to begin shooting with the sizzling Bipasha Basu later this week.

No, it's not the Tanu Weds Manu sequel, before you think that way, because seems like Kangna Ranaut is determined to do that one.

Instead, this one is a romantic comedy, which also features dinosaurs like Milind Soman (from the Madhu-Milind hisssstory), Mrinalini Sharma (a once-upon-a-time-model) and my evergreen Helen aunty.

The film is a romantic comedy and will be directed by Ashwini Chaudhary. The first shooting schedule starts on July 8. Well, I love my Bips and let's see what she brings to the screen now, but Mads??? Kya karein... such is life dearies.

Chillar Party bags award even before release - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, July 4 -- Doting father Salim Khan is giving away one of his precious trophies to the directors of Chillar Party, which is son Salman Khan's maiden production venture. The legendary scriptwriter, who along with partner Javed Akhtar, had won the Filmfare award for Zanjeer (1973), handed over the trophy to Vikas Bahl and Nitesh Tiwari after watching the film.

"It's the third time that I have given away my trophy. This is my way of appreciating good work that I come across," says Khan, who has earlier given his awards to the team of A Wednesday (2008) and his partner's son, Farhan Akhtar, for his acting debut in Rock On! (2008).

Ask Khan Sr. about his superstar son's first foray into production and he says: "Salman has associated himself with a good product. If films like Chillar Party work, good films will be encouraged. We should appreciate such movies."

At the same time, the writer refuses to label films. "People feel 'item numbers work' or 'it's an NRI' or 'a single screen' or 'a multiplex film.' But there are no categories. It's either good or bad cinema. And trust me, Chillar Party is a good film," he says.

The director duo is, of course, elated. "It's a great feeling. As far as awards go, Salim sir's appreciation has sorted that part. Seriously, we couldn't have asked for a bigger compliment. Now, we wait for the audience's response," says Bahl. Khan Sr. adds that Chillar Party is genuine, honest and compassionate. "It's also difficult to make because the cast includes untrained kids and a dog. I hope such films are made more often."

'Delhi Belly' minting money! - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

New Delhi, July 3 (Indian Media Report) Aamir Khan's home production "Delhi Belly" has broken the dry spell at box office by earning Rs.15.65 crore on its first two days despite being an adult comedy, while Amitabh Bachchan's family entertainer "Bbuddah...Hoga Teraa Baap" (BHTB) is at Rs.4.26 crore.

The opening collection for AB Corp's Rs.10 crore "Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap" was Rs.1.91 crore, but it picked up on Saturday by grossing Rs.2.35, said film critic Taran Adarsh on his Twitter page.

"'Bbuddah HTB' would've collected double/triple of what it has, had it averted clash with other films. Would've got more screens also," he wrote.

Anant Verma, director and business head, DT Cinemas told Media that both the films are doing great, "however, 'Delhi Belly' is slightly better as it has more shows than 'Bbuddah..'

"Moreover, it caters to the young crowd, while Bbuddah.. is meant for family. 'Delhi Belly' has an interesting concept and it has been promoted in such a way that the audience know what to expect from it," said Verma.

Made at a budget of Rs.25 crore including print and publicity, Imran Khan-starrer earned Rs.7.15 crore friday and Rs 8.50 crore on Saturday.

While "Bbuddah..." is about a flamboyant Paris-returned gangster, played by Amitabh, "Delhi Belly" captures the urban, money-is-everything, foul-mouthed India with Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunal Roy Kapoor in the lead roles.

However, considering the budget and genre of the two films, both are doing well.

In fact, in some multiplexes "Bbuddah..." is giving neck to neck competition to "Delhi Belly".

"The response has been good. All the shows of 'Delhi Belly 'and 'Bbuddah..,' are going houseful. Yesterday 'Delhi Belly' was 99 percent while Bbuddah was 98.5 percent," said Rakesh Warikoo, general manager (operations) Spice Cinemas, who are running 18 shows of "Delhi Belly" and eight shows of 'Bbuddah... Hoga Teraa Baap'.

Yogesh Raizada of Waves Cinemas sees "Delhi Belly" doing well in the long run and suggests "'Bbuddah...' is a complete masala film and a family entertainer. It is Amitabh all the way. All the performances are also good. It makes for an enjoyable watch," he said.

" 'Delhi Belly' cannot be watched with parents due to its language. However, the film is likely to run for long time, although it is true, with the release of 'Murder 2' next week, the business will get affected to some extent," he added.

ZNMD cast ready to hit the road! - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Mumbai, July 4 -- The lead cast of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD) is going great lengths to promote their upcoming film, quite literally. Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Kalki Koechlin will take off on a road trip from Mumbai to Delhi later this week, followed by a public concert upon reaching Gurgaon.

"Yes, we have decided to go on a road trip. Since the film is about a bachelor trip that the three boys decide to go on, it would be like reliving the experience all over again," says producer Ritesh Sidhwani.

The move has been planned in accordance with the storyline of the Zoya Akhtar film, in which the three male leads take off on a road trip. Three friends - Arjun (Hrithik), Imraan (Farhan) and Kabir (Abhay) go on a bachelor trip to Spain before the latter gets hitched.

During the real life road trip, the stars will drive the car themselves as much as possible, because they want to get the feel of a raw journey. Over three days, they'll cover a distance of about 1,500 kms by road. En route to the Capital, the star cast will drive through several Indian states. In fact, they plan to stop in a few major states like Gujarat and Rajasthan to promote their film before moving towards their final destination.

As per plan, they will begin their journey on July 7 from Bandra, and are likely to reach Delhi by road on July 10, where they will perform at the concert in Gurgaon. For the uninitiated, Farhan - a few years ago - had performed at a live concert in Delhi to promote his acting debut, Rock On! (2008).

It is tour de India for Emraan! - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Having practically experienced the charm of the city tours during a nine-city extensive tour of India for his film Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), Emraan Hashmi is now all set to explore fourteen cities for his next film Murder 2, which releases this July.

Emraan has had some nerve-wracking experiences while promoting his films in the past like getting mobbed for hours and being intimidated by his female fans. However, he believes that this is a part and parcel of the trade.

He says, “At a couple of places I saw bulging crowds of several thousands and our car was mobbed and stuck in the jam for hours. I have witnessed all, from being kissed and scratched by girls to being followed by the bikers to the hotel and airport. However for me, it all adds up to more love for my fans.”

The promotional city tours generally include press conferences as well as visits to local colleges, malls and multiplexes.

Now, Lisa Ray turns author - Latest Bollywood News Gossips

Lisa Ray is ready to make her comeback. After being diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer, in 2009, the actor went through various stages of treatment. Recently, she finished her stem cell treatment, going on to shoot for a TV show for four months around the country.

“That is actually longer than the time it takes to shoot for a film,” smiles the actor, before joking about how audiences will be able to watch the length of her hair grow with each episode of the TLC show Oh My Gold (OMG), which launches on July 11 and will be seen on the 9 pm slot.

She says, “I’m happy to be alive and ready to return to the screen. It’s a sort of celebration of my health. It’s beautiful and raw. I always wanted to do a travel show, because in this format the host is more than just a host. My personality comes forth.”

But what’s really kept her busy for the last few months has been her book. A few years ago, Ray announced the news of her illness and updates of her treatment to the world via her wordpress blog.

lisaAt that time, her articles proved to be a source of inspiration for various terminally ill patients. Inspired from that, she is now penning a book. “It’s going to be my memoir,” she says, insisting that it won’t be autobiographical in nature since she’s only 39 and has a lot to live. “I don’t want to make it sound like that. But yes, to an extent, the book is my journey in and out of cancer. My recent experiences opened certain doors for me.”

Days from announcing what her big Bollywood comeback film is going to be, Ray was also present at IIFA, which was being hosted by Toronto, Canada, the actor’s hometown. “It was a collision of two worlds, because Mumbai will always be home ground for me too,” says the actor, who acted in a play called Taj, with Kabir Bedi. “It was amazingly received. After all, that is an actor’s medium and it re-ignited my passion for acting.”
